Remember when cakes looked like this and cupcakes looked like this. Those were simpler times folks. With the current popularity of cake decorating television shows we get to look at shit like this and this.

But we here at Somewhat Shameless are bored with fancy cakes. We want something a little more creative and we want it to involve alcohol. Fortunately we didn't have to go very far to get exactly that. My Jello Americans, the culinary genius of two fine Philadelphia ladies, takes the simplest of party snacks and turns them into delicious (and sometimes not so delicious) works of art. The gals, Moe and Cory, recently stopped by our new home at Woodshop Films to introduce us to the world of fancy jello shots and explain to us why their "recipe" blog doesn't have any recipes.

Scott Pilgrim Vol. 6 Release Party

"Where is this Scott Pilgrim guy?" -drunk dude outside of Brave New Worlds

Everyone and their mom is getting hyped for the August 13th release of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The movie, directed by Edgar Wright is based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book series, Scott Pilgrim.

Volume 6 of the series recently hit the shelves (by recently we mean this past Tuesday) and fans new and old lined up to purchase their copy and argue about "liking it before it was cool to like it"

We stopped by the Brave New Worlds Midnight release party to mingle with the nerdy and grab a copy for ourselves. Unfortunately we didn't get enough footage to warrant making a video so you will have to deal with this picture post instead.

Ah, Wizard World conventions; where comic book nerds, sci-fi geeks and a bevy of peculiar characters all gather to add to their collections, drool over B (or even C) list celebrities and show off their costumes. We didn't believe so much great stuff could be in one building so we decided to check out the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con. And guess what? It was pretty awesome. We ran into old friends and even made some new ones. Check out the highlights in this video....

If there is one thing Somewhat Shameless knows how to do, it's party. However, even we are always open to suggestions on how to party hard. And who better to give us such advice than the undisputed King of Partying, Andrew W.K.

The multi-talented entertainer was recently a guest d.j. for Rocktits! as part of Making Time's 10 Year Summer of Radness Blast Off. We had the pleasure of meeting up with Andrew W.K. before his appearance at The Pub on Passyunk East (aka the P.O.P.E) where he expressed his love of bananas, gave us his top 5 party tips and took a Rorschach test.

The ladies of Somewhat Shameless have been really busy these last few weeks writing and scheduling new episodes for your viewing pleasure. In addition a few other fun things have happened since our last post.

Brian of Alaska wrote: "I tried the stout float yesterday. i'm into it. i'm not that big into stouts really, that bitter burnt flavor always pisses me off. so without tasting the beer I decided to make more of a shake than a float. you ever have kaluha and milk? that's kind of what it reminded me of, strong, bittersweet kaluha and milk with a nice chocolate-y aftertaste. I also drank it out of a mason jar. fuck yeah!"

How to make a stout float.

The recent sunshine and warmer temperatures in Philadelphia has us excited (and a little antsy) about summer. In order to keep this excitement going we decided to make one of our favorite summer time treats: stout and ice cream floats.

If you really need it explained:

serves 2 (or 1 if you're feeling gluttonous)
Divide one 12-ounce bottle or can of stout between 2 beer steins
add 1/2 cup coffee ice cream*

*we have not explored other ice cream flavors but feel free to share your suggestions if you have them!

All Things Nerdy...

Many of our viewers may be thinking to themselves "Are these girls only into looking cool and getting drunk?" While we here at Somewhat Shameless love both of those things, there is another side to us.... a nerdier side. Of course that side also involves drinking and looking cool but hey we can't help that being nerdy is hip now.

Speaking of, we recently had the pleasure of interviewing two fine gentlemen who make nerdy look cool. SLIM and dUb-ILL, the hosts of nerdcastONLINE, stopped by to share some drinks, talk about their show and teach us how to cheat at Taboo.

Yesterday astronaut (and second man on the moon) Buzz Aldrin set a new milestone by celebrating his 80th birthday. We here at Somewhat Shameless decided to also celebrate the anniversary of his birth by partaking in the Buzz Aldrin cocktail and watching him punch a moon landing conspiracy theorist in the face. We had so much fun we decided to share both the drink recipe and the video with you.

The Buzz Aldrin

4 parts Tang (grandma would be so proud!)
2 parts Peach Vodka
1 part Triple Sec

Combine ingredients in a shaker and shake over ice. Strain into a Tang rimmed cocktail glass and now watch this video!

It means "fire" in Spanish.

Pizza and whiskey while hanging out with El Fuego, of course. 3 members of the 5 piece Philadelphia based band (and former students of The Paul Green School of Rock Music) along with their manager, stopped by to discuss sex, drugs and rock n' roll. Then they let us electrocute them.

Beer, Cake and Webcomics

The internet is taking over everything. Did you know you can read comic books online now?! Yeah, something called a "webcomic" because flipping pages is for the birds. Somewhat Shameless recently had the opportunity to sit down (and drink) with the creators of The Black Cherry Bombshells, Johnny Zito and Tony Trov. The South Philly natives shared their tales of cross country travel, friendship and pimpin' hoes.

In addition to the Black Cherry Bombshells, Zito and Trov have teamed up with artist Christine Larsen to expand their empire with LaMorte Sisters. That makes TWO series at the SAME TIME. We're told that's a first for a Zuda Comics creator. Go check it out before you fall behind and end up looking like an asshole. No one wants to look like an asshole.
